Answers

1. Does it matter if the time I spent living outside my home country wasn’t consecutive (i.e. in a row)?
Yes, you’re only eligible to apply if you have spent at least two consecutive years (in a row) living outside your home country.

2. I will not have spent at least two consecutive years abroad until after the scholarship deadline. Am I eligible to apply?
No, you must have lived abroad for at least two consecutive years as of the date you submit your entry.

3. What is considered my home country?
Your home country is the country of your passport.

4. Can I apply if I’m now back in my home country after living abroad?
Yes.

5. Do I have to be a U.S. Citizen to apply?
No, full-time students of any nationality are encouraged to apply.

6. In order to apply for your scholarship, I must be 12-18 years old. What if I don't fall within the age range by the deadline?
As long as you’re 12-18 years old at the time you submit your entry, you’re still eligible to apply.

7. Is the scholarship designated for a specific use or institution?
No, the scholarship will be issued to you to use however you choose.

8. Are you looking for anything particular in the creative image portion of the contest?
No, use your imagination! The more creative you are, the more you and your entry will stand out to the judges.

9. Can I submit more than 3 images as the creative media?
Yes, you can submit more if you like. You can also submit them in a PowerPoint presentation.

10. How long does my essay have to be?
The essay must be a minimum of 500 words and a maximum of 750 words. We strongly discourage you from exceeding this limit.

11. Can I submit video for the creative portion of my entry?
Unfortunately, we are not accepting video this year. You must submit an image/photograph (JPEG or TIFF file) of your creative piece.

12. Where can I download information about the scholarship?
A complete list of instructions and documents are available for download. Click on 2010 Scholarship Information in the Download column on the scholarship’s main page for printer-friendly information about the contest.

13. What happens once I submit my entry?
You will receive a confirmation e-mail indicating that you successfully submitted your entry. The winners will be announced on September 13, 2010. If you are selected as a winner, we will personally notify you of your award.
