Answers

1. Does it matter if the time I spent living outside my home country wasn't consecutive (i.e. in a row)?
Yes, you’re only eligible to apply if you have spent at least two consecutive years (in a row) living outside your home country.

2. I will not have spent at least two consecutive years abroad until after the scholarship deadline. Am I eligible to apply?
No, you must have lived abroad for at least two consecutive years as of the date you submit your entry.

3. What is considered my home country?
What is considered my home country? Your home country is the country of your passport. If you have more than one passport, your home country is the country where you obtained your first passport.

4. Can I apply if I’m now back in my home country after living abroad?
Yes.

5. Do I have to be a U.S. Citizen to apply?
No, full-time students of any nationality are encouraged to apply.

6. In order to apply for your scholarship, I must be 12-18 years old. What if I don't fall within the age range by the deadline?
As long as you’re 12-18 years old at the time you submit your entry, you’re still eligible to apply.

7. Is the scholarship designated for a specific use or institution?
No, the scholarship will be issued to you to use however you choose.

8. Can I feature more than one country in my video?
If you have lived abroad in more than one country, please only choose one to feature in your video.

9. What if my video is over 3 minutes long?
Please keep your videos between 2-3 minutes in length.

10. Can I just send my video to you instead of uploading it to YouTube?
Unfortunately, we are not accepting video files. You must upload your video to YouTube and include the link in your online application form to enter this contest. You will need to create a YouTube account to upload video. Click here for instructions. Recommended file types: MP4, mov, mpeg, mpg, wmv

11. When is the scholarship deadline?
Your entry must be submitted successfully by Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 11:59 p.m. EST (U.S.).  

12. Where can I download information about the scholarship?
A complete list of instructions and documents are available for download. Click on 2011 Scholarship Information in the Download column on the scholarship’s main page for printer-friendly information about the contest.

13. What happens once I submit my entry?
You will receive a confirmation e-mail indicating that you successfully submitted your entry. The winners will be announced on September 13, 2011. If you are selected as a winner, we will personally notify you of your award.

14. How are the winners chosen?
- Once the scholarship contest closes, we will narrow the entries down to the top 12 with the help of our Judges Panel.

- The top 12 videos will be posted on the Expat Youth Scholarship Facebook page under the “Links” tab.

- During the month of August, members of the Expat Youth Scholarship fan page will be able to vote for their favorites using the “Like” feature. Voting (aka “Liking”) will end on August 31. (Make sure you tell your friends and family to join our page and vote!)

- The total number of fan “Likes” will determine the top 3 winners in each age category.

16. Can anyone vote for the videos on the Expat Youth Scholarship Facebook page?
Only fans of the Expat Youth Scholarship Facebook page have access to the videos and can “Like” them. It’s easy to join the page – just click here or search “Expat Youth Scholarship” and click “Like” at the top of the page
